Barbera

One of Italy's most popular and versatile red grape varieties from Piedmont but found throughout the country, even in the far south, the best wines are generally from the Barbera d'Alba and Barbera d'Asti denominations.

Barbera is known for its bright acidity and juicy red and black fruit character. Most wines are medium to full body with soft tannins and vibrant acidity but some are made with longer ageing in mind. Simpler Barbera is a perfect pizza/pasta wine; the more complex, aged examples pair well with stews.
