Podere Casisano, Tuscany (Italy)

Founded as recently as 1990, the estate is isolated and beautifully set, surrounded by thick woods with a road that requires determination to get there. It extends over 53 hectares, 22 of which are vineyards (including nine for Brunello wines and seven for Rosso di Montalcino – the remainder is for the Sant’Antimo denomination). The only grape cultivated here is Sangiovese Grosso, planted at 4-5,000 vines per hectare, yielding an average of 7,000kg per hectare.

The wines are among the more elegant Brunellos, wonderful to enjoy at a modestly young age but certainly capable of ageing well.
