Riesling
![]() |
Riesling is one of the world's most versatile and age-worthy white grape varieties, best known in German wines and, in France, wines from Alsace but, as with other noble varieties, it has found favour with winemakers across the globe and meets with varying degrees of success in different sites. There are several estates in Piedmont experimenting and the style that seems to be coming out there is more like a Rhine Riesling than one from the Mosel, for example. That is to say, aromatics of lime, green apple, peach and white flowers, good acidity - but less searing than a Mosel wine should be - so fresh and moderately ageworthy. Asian cuisine, pork, seafood and soft cheeses all go well with this style and, of course, classic dishes such as coq au Riesling. |
