Xavier Vignon, Lirac 2019

Xavier Vignon, Lirac 2019

£17.00
750ml
A worthy follow up to the 2016, the fruit is at the blacker end of the red fruits spectrum (raspberries rather than strawberries) than many - this is probably down to Xavier's modernist approach to winemaking - but with underbrush and spice added in for good measure. In any case, it's a very good Southern Rhone wine and, compared with many, offers extremely good value. On the nose, aromas of red and black ripe fruit (kirsch and wild blackberry) are dominant. The palate is full with aromas of blackcurrant liqueur and spice. Tannins are both harmonious and elegant. The finish carries hints of liquorice and vanilla, which give the wine length and complexity.

Critic Reviews:
“An 80-20 blend of Grenache and Syrah, Vignon's 2019 Lirac is drawn from multiple parcels with galets roulés over clay soils. Roughly one-third went into oak, while the rest stayed in tank. It may be the most complex of the various Vignon "Signature" offerings, marrying hints of garrigue and licorice with mixed ber- ries and hints of oak. It's medium to full-bodied, silky and forward, with the same lip-smacking drinkability factor that marks all of Vignon's wines on the finish." 92/100 (Wine Advocate)
