Justin Girardin, Santenay
We have been importing Justin's family's wines since the 2012 vintage but, at that time, the estate was still under the leadership of his father, Jacques. At the time of Justin's first vintage - 2013 - he was still a very young man, learning the ropes and, whilst those wines were very enjoyable (and extremely good value), there is no doubt that Justin has made great progress as a winemaker over the course of the last decade. His Premier Cru Santenay reds, the mainstay of his production, are all delicious but quite different: Clos Rousseau is the most suave with bright red fruit character whilst Beauregard is absolute classic Santenay with red-black fruit. His white 'Terrasses de Bievaux' is more opulent than in the past and he treats it to a little more oak (although this sheds quickly enough) to flesh it out further. More...
