Tasting Notes: Simply fabulous, Xavier has captured the essence of Châteauneuf in this wonderful vintage for Grenache. It needs time to show at its best but everything is in place for a remarkable drinking experience.
All wines from this estate | Drinking Dates: 2024 to 2032 | Cépagement: 100% Grenache | Upbringing: La Papesse is a specific selection of berries picked from the collection vineyards of Châteauneuf-du-Pape (very old vines, most often co-planted). They are then sorted to ensure consistency. The juices are distributed to be vinified in different containers. (conical trunk tank, concrete tank and stainless steel tank, about 1/3 of each). After the malolactic fermentation at the beginning of November 2016, the wine was redivided for the aging phase in various containers. (amphorae, barrels, concrete, half muid and stainless steel tanks).
Part of the volume is raised according to the Vinarium technique. The wines are transferred to small 200L barrels which themselves are submerged in the wine. This process was spread over several years between 2017 and 2020. | ABV: 15% | Critic Reviews: 'The full-bodied, voluminous 2016 Chateauneuf du Pape Arcane La Papesse shows a surprising degree of elegance for such a big wine. Remarkably dark and youthful in appearance, it gives up hints of leather, cedar and dried spices, all set against a backdrop of black cherries and plums. The tannins are fine and silky on the mid-palate, fading gently into soft dustiness on the lingering finish. Impressive, with at least a decade of aging potential still
ahead of it.' 94/100 (Parker) |
