Tasting Notes: From 2016, Juliette has been blending small quantities of each of the four Premier Cru wines into this special cuvée which somehow manages to show off the distinctive qualities of each wine. The 2016 was drinking well from the outset but Juliette has reined in the wine to help it develop into a longer term prospect so, whilst buying this wine is very much recommended (the equivalent in terms of quality from the Côte de Nuits would cost two to three times as much), equally encouraged is putting it to the back of the cellar or the bottom of the pile for now.
All wines from this estate | Drinking Dates: 2031 to 2036 | Cépagement: 100% Pinot Noir | Upbringing: Aged in Allier oak barrels (2/3 new) from tonnelliere Francois Freres for 14 months, followed by four months in bottle prior to release. | ABV: 14% | Critic Reviews: 'A moderately woody nose fights a bit with the ripe aromas of various purple fruit scents while trimmed in hints of earth, spice and exotic tea. There is terrific intensity and overt power to the solidly concentrated larger-scaled flavors that exude a subtle minerality on the sappy, very firm and austere finale. This is also clearly built-to-age and a wine that's going to need at least a few years of bottle age to both become more approachable as well as better integrate its generous wood treatment. With that said, this is very promising provided you have the patience to wait. Drink 2031+.' 91-94/100 (Allen Meadows, Burghound) |
