Domaine de Mourchon
Walter McKinlay's Domaine de Mouchon in the hills just outside the picturesque village of Séguret has been getting an unfair amount of attention in the press recently. In March, Robert Parker wrote "This is the best estate today in Séguret and they continue to take the quality of their Côtes du Rhône to an exciting level" (not a world away from Steven Spurrier's early comment: "Domaine de Mourchon is the unquestioned leader in Séguret"). Now, to coincide with the arrival of the 2006 Côtes du Rhône Villages "Tradition", an extremely drinkable wine already (in contrast to the 2005 which is a keeper), there are more reviews to add to Parker's description of this wine as having "very pretty fruit, loads of cherries and strawberries, roundness and charm that are lovely and ideal for drinking over the next 5-6 years". Jancis Robinson MW described this as "unoaked but with fruit this concentrated, from a fine terroir north of Châteauneuf, does not need any make-up. Lots of fruit, juice and charm." In Decanter magazine, Michael Broadbent (regarded by many as the UK's most experienced palate) described the 2006 Tradition as "well-made, full-bodied, a par-for-the-course 14.5%, good value" and in the Sunday Times, Joanna Simon recommended it as "ripe and spicy" (01/06/2008). The wine also won a Silver Medal at the Decanter World Wine Awards. Click here to buy the wine or email/call us with your order.
