Tasting Notes: This is the biggest Grande Réserve I have tasted to date (although if you get to the estate before stocks run out I recommend picking up some of the 100% Grenache Family Reserve, a miniscule production to celebrate 10 years in Séguret and sold only at the estate). Very full and fruity with great mouthfeel – a meal in itself. It needs three to five years for the tannins to soften but the potential is there for a truly great wine, the best yet produced in the Séguret appellation? Almost certainly. | Drinking Dates: 2010 to 2018 | Cépagement: 65% Grenache, 35% Syrah (60-year-old vines, 20hl/ha) | Upbringing: Matured 40% in barriques | ABV: 14.5% | Critic Reviews: “The 2006 Séguret Grande Réserve reveals the beautiful charm, forward fruit and lusciousness of this vintage. The wine is deep ruby, has plenty of sweet cherry and strawberry notes, hints of liquorice and herbs, and a luscious, round opulent mouthfeel.” 90-93/100 ( Parker February 2008)
"More like a great Chateauneuf-du-Pape than a Cotes du Rhone Villages Seguret. There is plenty of tannin, earth, garrigue>, spice box and pepper characteristics as well as oodles of black cherry and black currant fruit. This beautifully complex wine with tremendously expressive aromatics cuts a broad, full-bodied mouthfeel but do not think it can't age as it possesses plenty of structure and tannin. It should hit its stride in two years and last for a decade thereafter." 91/100 (Parker) |
