Tasting Notes: Beautiful black fruit (50% Grenache, the balance equal parts of Syrah and Mourvedre) grown high in the Dentelles de Montmirail giving this wine plenty of welcome freshness. The 50% new oak used is swallowed up by the cassis and spice-laden palate which has fresh minerality and a superb structure. From 2021.
All wines from this estate | Drinking Dates: 2020 to 2030 | Cépagement: 50% Grenache, 25% Syrah, 25% Mourvedre | Upbringing: Hand-picked, severe selection, crushing, destalking, cold pre-fermentation and separate fermentation for each variety for 21 days with pigeage and temperature control. Aged in 100% oak casks, around 40% new. | ABV: 13.5% | Critic Reviews: "One of the top wines at this address, the 2016 Gigondas les Hauts de Montmirail shows incredible perfumed freshness, red raspberry fruit and a full-bodied, richly creamy texture. On top of all that, this blend of Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre shows absolutely no sign of excessive weight or heat despite its enormous ripeness." 94+/100 (Jeb Dunnock, Wine Advocate) | Food: Rich foods - or, if you like it like this (we do), on its own. |
