Domaine des Malandes, Chablis

An estate which has long been one of our favourites, we were very pleased when Lyne and Bernard Marchive agreed to us being one of their UK agents.

Domaine des Malandes came into being in 1986. There are 15 hectares of vines on soft slopes, rich in Kimmeridgean clay at altitudes between 150 and 250 metres. Vines are up to 40 years old.

Jean-Bernard Marchive's attention to detail in the 15 hectare vineyard (including double pruning to control yield), especially at harvest time, and non-interventionist winemaking (such as using the lightest settings on the press) allows the wines a chance to assert their own characters. The wines express fruit or flower according to the vintage. After two or three years, they develop secondary aromas of honey and beeswax with touches of vanilla or toast. Chardonnay at its most pure.
